6 through to 9

well the best trod path are not necessarily the easiest or what ever the saying is. friday turned into another longish day culminating in some pretty furious riding at laggan I met up with Le Grand Rouleur, big Marky mark, and we pounded the red trails which was nice, the new red section route is already showing sign of what it will be like when ridden into its true groove and the old red still flows with the best of the manmade stuff. on returning dripping in sweat I met up with old friend Toby from Propel and VCM team mate Big Jez, they were up for the world cup and came over to catch up and squeeze a ride into the bargain, so off we set again and hammered through the old red twice and new red once, I was caked at the end but pleased with my riding having been off the mtb for some time, it was good to ride in such fine weather, that night I succumbed to a couple of beers though, bad boy, it was only a couple more out of an overwhelming thirst than anything else.
saturday came and went, I was feeling the burn bad from fridays riding, and it never really amounted to much, sunday though after all the chores were done, I snuck a great road ride, out to Weem, over the Braes of Foss and back via Tummel and Queens view, awesome weather, great warm headwind all the way out and quiet roads, just the tonic and I felt great afterwards, upbeat and tired, I snuck a cold one with dinner but it was one.
So week one is down, I've had three beers, not bad, a hell of a lot more exercise and I generally feel a darn site better,
A week on the road is about to kick off so we will see what it has in store for me..

days 4 and 5

been working on two days of photo shoots for work, like a sort of low level interval session but lasting two days, a beer would have been nice on several occasions, its been hot and dusty days out side which leaves the entire body feeling a little crispy around the edges. think its been good though, been working with uncle geoff which has been a pretty funny experience to be honest,
anyway, started thinking I might like a suspension fork on the front of the one speed again, the ground is so hard right now that my wrists are kinda fried. but what fork?

meanwhile its the world cup in Fort William this weekend, such a dreadful place but a great privilege to have an event of this calibre on our doorstep, might try and sneak for the XC, love watching those skinny boys and girls giving it full pelt on highly inappropriate bicycles, great stuff.

bring on the weekend

a tired new me part 3

day 3 of the new regime,
well after the positive start, tuesday 3rd was a realisation as to how hard this is going to be. I had a hard day at work not getting finished (home) till 21.45 there was no way there was going to be any exercise had, I was knackered. but still no drink and that is at least something, sleep seems to becoming a very deep place. the rest of the week should be easier, should be.

a brand new me. day 2

well here I am day two feeling like I am some sort of crusade against the demons that lurk within, ok so maybe that is an exaggeration but I already have had trouble squeezing in exercise, I managed to eventually get some, in the guise of a wee hours worth of single speed riding, mostly on the road with a super sweet singletrack at the mid-point, barely enough to call a ride but I did raise both a smile and a sweat so I guess it merits the title of ride.
tomorrow is a tough day with work, so I am unsure just what I will do to keep to the plan! It's either going to be real early or real late, harumph.

on a plus I felt pretty good tonight, nice to feel some strength deep in the legs once more, I can only hope it will get better.

a brand new me. maybe

so here is the deal, I reckon I drink too much, not a problem some may say, however I also reckon I'm just not as fit as I would like to be add to the mix a distinct lack of spare money and we have ourselves an unhealthy cocktail. something has to change. so for the month of June and possibly beyond, I am going to stop drinking, pocket the money and channel the time that normally would be spent hugging a beer into getting some exercise. it's not going to be easy but as an experiment as to how much exercise I can take and how well I adapt to no booze it should be pretty interesting, who knows I might like it!
So here goes,
Day One (Sun 1st)
Spent a large part of the day in the garden strimming and cutting, pretty good workout to be honest but unsure wether it would count as real exercise so had a late evening 45 minutes on the turbo just to make sure I got something more recognisable as exercise into my system, there was a lot of sweat. So far so good, slept deep.
30 days left.
